What a find!

Today my fellow modern old soul and I stopped at a roadside yard sale.

I am a total fan of garage sales but this was an antique yard sale!
There was no walking through smelly, dirty garages or rummaging through another's random and outdated holiday decorations.  There were so many cool finds!

Molly found a car load (literally) of awesome steals and I was pretty pleased with my tiny, yet, just as awesome, find.

This antique green bedside clock pretty much made my day- it's so cute!

It pairs really well next to the wood picture frame and picture of Shane and I (at prom!) that I have in my bedroom.  Love makes the world go round and the clock keep ticking

Wood surely warms up any room.  It really can go with any style of a home, in any room of the house, with any wall color, for all ages.  Wood is simple, sleek, and timeless; it can really work wonders in any home.

Life is about the

little things,

so, instead of taking time to stop and smell the

 flowers,

take the time to stop at a

roadside yard sale!

Real Pumpkin- Pumpkin Pie

THIS IS A MUST TRY!

How can I beat Molly's posts?? She's such a natural blogger!

Attend class - CHECK!

Study - CHECK!

Sleep - almost check...

Make pumpkin pie from a real pumpkin - CHECK!

___________

Honestly, I never really knew that people ever made pumpkin pies from a REAL pumpkin.  Canned pumpkin hails at my house.
____________

The pumpkins used are not normal carving pumpkins.  They are referred to as
pie pumpkins
or
sugar pumpkins,
or a similar name.

____________

Personally, I think that everyone should try making food/meals as
homemade
as possible as often as possible simply because it's
always better.

That's why our
grandma's
food is so delicious- she's got all the
secret homemade recipes!

With my grandma's homemade crust, this pie was a hit at my house.  I am begging
everyone to try making a homemade real pumpkin pie at some point this fall
(Thanksgiving is comin' up fast!).
Not only does it taste better, but honestly,
what's better that having the feeling of doing something from scratch and having everyone love it??

To me, having people adore the food that I dedicated extra time to is... priceless.

____________

Here is the recipe that I used.
Pumpkin Pie (scroll down a bit for the link to the actual recipe)

She made a canned and real pumpkin pie and took them
"to the streets"
 to see which was preferred.

Guess which pie won??

Grandma's Pie Crust
3/4 cup butter flavored Crisco
2 cups flour
pinch of salt

Mix until crumbly.  Add 5 tablespoons cold water one tablespoon at a time and mix.

Before I put it in the oven- of course I had to make it look pretty.

Let me know how your pie turns out!

Weekend Hotdish

Millie's Hotdish

My Great-Aunt's quick & easy hot-dish recipe!

A favorable recipe, with ingredients you will regularly
have around for impatience or sleepy weekends.

I don't know why but this tastes so much better
served at my Grandma's house by my Grandma herself.

This might not look like anything spectacular
but it always a hit-especially reheated.

Brown 1 pound of hamburger & some onion
drain
add 2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 can cream of celery soup
2 cans tomato soup
& 1 pkg cooked egg noodles

**put in oven to make sure its hot all the way through**
~enjoy

Just a small day brightener!
My little buddy Zip.

This past week we have re-did the ceiling in our basement with many changes. We are finishing up this weekend and hope to have everything back in place for Christmas. Pictures to come!
Have a Wonderful weekend, until next time...

Grandma Carol's Apple Pie

Halloween Monster Cookies & Candy Corn Pretzels

A fun stand Heidi & I found at the junk sale!
Pumpkin Muffins on bottom--yum
.........................................................

My tried and true Monster Cookie Recipe:
3 eggs
1.5 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon corn syrup
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 cup butter
1.5 cups peanut butter
4.5 cups rolled oats
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup m&m's

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  1. In a very large bowl, beat the eggs.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients in order, mixing well.
  3. Use an ice cream scoop to put on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.

I used Candy Corn M&M's and added in some peanuts for a     yummy fall combination. They are nice to make ahead of time and are always good frozen too!

Candy Corn Pretzels

Ingredients:
Mini Pretzels (I used the snaps, shaped like squares, but you could use the twists too.)
Hershey Kisses Hugs (any kind of kisses would do)
Candy Corn

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or foil. Place pretzels on cookie sheet, not touching. Unwrap Hershey's Kisses and place on top of pretzels and then place filled cookie sheet in oven. Bake for 3-5 minutes but no longer. You will know they are ready when the Hershey Kisses start to get shiny. Take out of oven and gently place candy corn on top of Hershey Kisses, pushing down ever so gently. Cool and then transfer to serving platter or wrap up as gifts. I actually placed mine in the fridge for a few minutes to speed up the cooling process, and it worked perfectly.

Heidi and I attended the Junk Bonanza and met some fellow bloggers!

One being Linda, from Itsy Bits and Pieces.

She is very talented and had such amazing stuff at her booth. Her and her Daughter are beautiful inside and out. It was fun talking to her and she even informed us she rents a spot from an antique store right here in Mankato! I look forward to checking out her stuff.

We had such a great time looking for treasures and finding potential in all the stuff there.

One gem I found was an old mixer, I figured she was my Gretchen's Great Grandmother!

I have several blogs I like to follow and one of my absolute favorites is YoungHouseLove. I am going to their book signing in November and cannot wait! It will be like meeting a celebrity for me.

As always I have been busy busy--life never slows down
but I love it and am very happy with mine.

I was recently sick this past week and was reminded to NEVER take your

(Health)

for Granted!

"The start of this new season provides a wonderful opportunity for you to renew; it's a time to discover which parts of yourself you'd like to embrace and expand upon, and which parts of your summer skin you'd like to shed."

Good bye for now~as always~much more to come
